When the sun is out in full force this summer, you’ll want a simple, clean look that will suit the season and also last in the heat. Here are a few must-have items for your summer beauty bag.

1. Sunscreen

If you’re on the beach, be sure to cover up exposed skin with a mineral sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, as well as oversized sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and light cotton clothing. And although it’s not a beauty product, it won’t hurt to have some natural DEET-free insect repellent handy. Some drops off lemongrass essential oil or citronella products may help keep pesky insects away too.

2. Mineral Foundation

When it comes to beauty basics in the sand or surf, you’ll also want a light foundation that won’t look cakey or clog pores. Apply a natural mineral foundation powder with an SPF of 15 or more using a kabuki brush to help protect your skin from most of the sun’s rays. The brand 100% Pure sells many different shades of foundation that can be used alone or over tinted moisturizer.

3. Eyeliner

To accentuate your eyes this summer, avoid the smokey-eyed look unless you’re at a nightclub or a restaurant after sundown. Instead, opt for an eyeliner that is just a few shades darker than your hair to make your eyes pop with just the right amount of personality.

4. Waterproof Mascara

An active summer lifestyle doesn’t mean going completely bare where beauty essentials are concerned. To top off your eyes, use a medium-toned waterproof mascara so the makeup doesn’t wash off in the waves. You’ll still stand out enough for that perfect selfie in the sand.

5. Chapstick or Lip Gloss

When you’re outdoors this summer, the last thing you want to worry about is if you’ve accidentally smudged your lipstick. It’s a better bet to use a tinted Chapstick with SPF 15 or more, or a simple lip gloss, to keep your smackers hydrated and touch-ably soft all day. Plus, these products usually contain nutrients to protect the health of your beautiful lips.

6. Mineral Eyeshadow

After an afternoon of swimming, once you have rinsed off the day’s sweat and sunscreen, reapply your foundation, touch up your lip gloss and eyeliner, and opt for a shimmery or nude eyeshadow in the same color family as your eyeliner. Or, for a less natural and more feminine look, choose a natural mineral eyeshadow with a pinkish hue to match your lips.

7. Mineral Bronzer

Unless your skin never burns, your best bet at getting that perfect summer glow to your cheeks is to stay out of direct sunlight and instead use a side-angled brush to glide on some bronzer in a summery coral shade. Unlike blush, the tone of bronzer typically tends to look sun-kissed instead of rosy. There are many varieties of bronzer available from Jane Iredale.

8. Nail Polish

For gorgeous, natural nails, try a top-rated nail lacquer by Zoya in any shade from pink to blue and everything in between. What’s best is that the products are free of harsh chemicals such as DBP, camphor, toluene, formaldehyde, and formaldehyde resin.

9. Body Spray

Although natural pheromones may attract some potential love interests, your friends will thank you if you don’t smell like a dirty gym sock all day. So once you’re done playing outdoors, spritz your arms and legs with some bursts of citrus, ocean-scented, or vanilla body spray, and then take a much-needed break in the air conditioning or behind a cool fan.

10. Facial Spritzer

If you’re out in the sun for long, you’ll either feel sweaty and oily or a dry heat. Either way, try a refreshing spritz of water from a travel-sized facial spray like EVIAN Brumisateur Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray. You’ll feel like you just stepped out of the shower.

11. Water

Don’t forget to stay hydrated if you’re spending time being active or having fun outside. Dehydration is not only dangerous to your health but can also make your skin dry out and age quicker.
