It’s the first day of February, which means that Valentine’s Day is only two weeks away. For many of us, it may mean we’re scrambling to think of cute gift ideas for our “better half” – but what if your better half is YOU? Or, what if you don’t need another person to complete you, because you’re an amazing whole person all by yourself? Well, whatever your situation may be, set aside time this Valentine’s Day for so much self-love that you’ll forget about the rest of the world and just enjoy being your beautiful, individual self!

For most people, being single on Valentine’s Day sucks. You may feel lonely or depressed, or just plain bored. And you’re probably fed up with all the lovey-dovey crap that it’s enough to make you want to throw up. So are seven simple ways to avoid the heartache and instead spoil yourself this year!

7 Easy Ways to Pamper Yourself on V-Day

1. Sleep in. You work hard. You deserve a morning to hit the snooze button and just take your time getting up. Besides, a good night’s sleep is also good for your health!

2. Go to brunch. Even though Valentine’s Day is on a Thursday this year, and most of us will be at work all day, take an early lunch and head to your favorite restaurant. Today is all about pampering yourself, so try that new entree you’ve been eyeing, pair it with a martini or a mimosa, and finish up with a delectable dessert. (The diet can wait.) Or, if you’re on the go, check this list from PEOPLE magazine for quick deals and free food on February 14.

3. Talk a nature walk. If you’re lucky enough to live in the southern states, you’re probably not facing freezing temperatures. So if the weather near you is nice enough, enjoy a brisk afternoon walk. Soaking in the sun will boost your mood (thanks to vitamin D) and breathing in the fresh forest air will help you unwind from the stress of daily life. (Clean oxygen helps rejuvenate the mind, while the simple act of forest bathing will clear your head.)

4. Get a massage. You’ll want to make an appointment in advance, but the best parts of Valentine’s Day are the specials that spas and salons run during this time of year. Places like Elements Massage are offering a $20 off gift card for a 60-minute massage complete with aromatherapy! Choose from four AromaRitual® massages, ranging from romantic rose petals to energizing lemon, ginger and geranium; or try refreshing Eucalyptus, peppermint and patchouli.

The option we recommend is a calming lavender, nutmeg and black pepper massage, which will relieve any built-up muscle pain. These blended essential oils provide a nurturing experience that will help balance your body and mind for an overall sense of wellbeing.

If you don’t have time to get out for a massage, order some oils to diffuse at home! Trusted natural brands like Wyndmere Essential Oils offer similar blends of lavender or Eucalyptus for relaxation.

5. Treat yourself. Whether you’re working all day or are off, be sure to spend Valentine’s Day evening doing something that you really enjoy. Whether that’s getting cozy at home with a glass of wine and watching your favorite old movies, taking yourself out to dinner, giving yourself a mani-pedi, trying on a sexy new shade of lipstick, or going on a mini shopping spree, you should indulge yourself today!

6. Take a bubble bath. Surrounding yourself with all-natural, good-for-you bath and body care products is another way to pamper yourself. The first step to the perfect bubble bath is running hot water and adding in a few drops of essential oils, along with Crystal Balance Himalayan Bath Salt from Source Naturals. The oils provide a gentle fragrance, while the salt stimulates circulation, cleanses, and smooths the skin.

Then throw in Everyday Shea Moisturizing Bubble Bath in lavender by Alaffia, a paraben-free and cruelty-free bubble bath made with certified Fair Trade shea butter. Then try shampoo and conditioner, as well as moisturizing lotion, from Acure, Derma E, or Kiss My Face – all trusted natural bath and beauty brands.

7. Be mine, valentine. To round out Valentine’s Day, spend a few minutes writing yourself a valentine. No, not the mushy kind. This is a valentine of self-love and self-acceptance. Think about all the struggles you’ve been through, how you’ve persevered, and all that you’ve achieved. Think about the charming, ironic things you enjoy about yourself, your body, your life, and your personality. Then be kind. Be gentle. And write them all down.

In your journal, or on some pretty stationery, jot down 10 things you absolutely love about yourself – no matter how small or seemingly insignificant you think they are. Hang up your list on the fridge, and when you wake up tomorrow morning, stand in front of a mirror and read them aloud.

Remember how special you are! There is no one else like you. And whether you choose to spend Valentine’s Day on your own, with family or friends, or your beloved pets, it’s your day and you can do whatever you want that makes you happy.

Welcome to a new day, and a new you.
